Must have Android Apps

Recently a close relative gifted my first Android... HTC Wildfire. I said first android...you use it once, you will want to use it forever, Android is really cool.... simply brilliant... only concern I have is privacy, we sync all our Gmail contacts, Facebook contacts, phone numbers, you get so much addicted that you will even put your bank account and investments details also..... in short Google knows you completely. That for me is a bit worrisome, all our personal data in one place. Of course you can also avoid syncing all these but then you loose out on a lot of fun!!

Its Smart phone so you'll need some smart apps also... here are a few...

  1. ApptoSD - to move your installed apps to more spacious SD card, by default apps get installed in phone memory itself.
  2. ColorNote - A small task apps, good for keeping notes and setting reminders, u can put individual notes on to any of your 7 available desktop and remove as and when the task is over.
  3. Google Sky Map - Wonderful tool to see all those starts in the sky!! Try it...
  4. Uninstaller - to uninstall those apps which are heavy on Ads or not what you really need...
  5. Paint - nice tool for painting, particularly if you have kids around.
  6. Ringdroid - For people who want to make custom ring tones from their favorite songs, absolute MUST HAVE!
  7. Amazon Kindle - for readers, you have to buy books from Amazon.
  8. Photofunia - As the name suggests fun with photos, needs internet connection to work.
  9. There is a PDF reader and a lot of other inbuilt smart apps.
  10. Documents and Spreadsheets can also be opened.
These are what I presently have..... will update as and when I'm impressed with more...

Vegabanik.exe spyware

Recently I had to plug in a lot of unclean USB sticks in my office PC, though I have a regularly updated Forticlient anti Virus in my system, I suspected that something was not right... system seemed sluggish and network seemed slow, so I activated the Firewall module, also available with Forticlient Free Edition, and I could see that there was some serious network activities.. a lot of packets were getting blocked by the firewall from one vegabanik.exe... it was trying to send to network ranges of my system and to some outside IP's.

My antivirus couldn't clean it completely though intermittently it popped up showing "I've caught some spyware"

Googling didn't turn up any clues... then i looked for top spyware removers, got a site which listed the top5 .. was looking for options other than the popular spybot... noticed ComboFix, liked its interface and robust looks... seemed the right one, downloaded and installed this free program, ran it and it caught the following exe's in the following paths...

d:\documents and settings\Administrator\fxmdk.exe
d:\documents and settings\****\Application Data\Microsoft\difu.exe
d:\documents and settings\****\Application Data\Microsoft\poniri.exe
d:\documents and settings\LocalService\Application Data\Microsoft\difu.exe
d:\documents and settings\LocalService\Application Data\Microsoft\poniri.exe

After a reboot, everything clean.....

Hope this helps someone bothered by this spy ware...
